About

Malakeh is a New Zealand-born, Meanjin-based transdisciplinary performance artist with a specialised focus on MENAHT (Middle Eastern, North African, Hellenic, and Turkish) dance, burlesque, and sideshow.

As a freelance teaching artist and producer, her work and practice is guided by a desire to enhance accessibility to classes, opportunities, and performance spaces for beginner adult performers and marginalised people.

Drawing from her own lived experiences as a physical performer with chronic pain, she strives to embed MENAHT principles into her practice to challenge and deconstruct social and class barriers within traditionally exclusive Western artistic spaces.

Malakeh is posed with her left leg and right arm extended to the left. She wears shiny leather pants, a corset, and gloves.
